Introduction
MRI is a relatively safe technique with very few contraidications
* Metallic fragments in the brain, eye and spinal canal.-movements may damage sensitive tissue .
* Cardiac pacemakers, insulin pumps cochlear implants can get deactivated by the magnetic field used in MRI .
* Swan Ganz catheters – local heating may result .
Metal outside the brain and eye is not a contraindication: Cardiac valves, inferior vena cava filters, IUD’s and metallic prostheses are safe, unless there is doubt as to positional stability.
