Definition

CT is an imaging technique that utilizes the attenuation of an X-ray beam through the body to create tomographic images. It is a method of acquiring thin cross section of an object, and then by using computational techniques enabling the reconstruction.

By virtue of axial tomographic technique, it avoids superimpostion of structures, and by virtue of digital technique it allows for the expansion of the gray scale .  Expansion of the gray scale enables subtle differnces of X-ray attenuation to be visualized.

Recent advances in CT technology allows for rapid, volumetric imaging and sophisticated data manipulation and image processing.
